Ships passing in the night
There have been a few instances over the last few years, mostly English captains named Johnson, who have escaped punishment for dirty and illegal behaviour on the field through the citation process and disciplinary panels. It is no surprise then when an English lock is let off from such awkward issues as where they place their feet - I mean who has control over those anyway? But the recent 'not guilty' verdict against Danny Grewcock when he clearly attempted to stamp on Hercus's mini-Hercus was surely a case of the citing officer watching the video with a blindfold on. Apparently, despite the video camera under the crossbar giving LIVE television a clear view of Grewcock's inadequate cha-cha-cha, there was not sufficient evidence for him to be cited. However he was warned about 'unlawful use of the boot' based on the non-evidence. I can't surely be the only person wondering wtf is going on.
The plot thickened considerably when George Chuter WAS cited for an incident during the Powergen semi-finals so he can't be on the bench for England against France, but he can play for Leicester on the Friday because of the differing regulations between the ERFU and the Six Nations. Again say it with me - wtf? Perhaps it is time the major Rugby bodies and unions in the Six Nations came together and banged out a single set of regulations so that we can all play on a level playing field without the words 'corrupt' and 'bastards' used in the same sentence. Needless to say I won't be holding my breath.
